Windy Druid Guide

D2R Items for Sale at the Cheapest Prices

Overview:

The Windy Druid is a very well-rounded, beginner-friendly Spell Caster. It is able to clear all game content (other than Ubers) relatively easily and synergises with any party.

STRENGTHS

  • Good Casting Speed.
  • Relatively few physical immunes in the game.
  • Extremely durable – able to tank most situations.
  • Oak Sage is a very powerful party buff.
  • High level of crowd control between summons and AOE cold damage.
  • Cyclone Armor makes you practically immune to elemental damage.

WEAKNESSES

  • Damage Output is a little low, not so good in games with more players.
  • Tornado has a short range and poor AOE.
  • Tornado travels slowly so damage is not very reactive.
  • Average Magic Finding efficiency.

Character Stats

FASTER CAST RATE BREAKPOINTS

Teleport / Tornado

12 Frames = 46 FCR

11 Frames = 68 FCR

10 Frames = 99 FCR < Low-Mid Budget

9 Frames = 163 FCR < High Budget Maximum Reached

FASTER HIT RECOVERY BREAKPOINTS

Hit by a weapon wielded in 1 hand

9 Frames = 29 FHR

8 Frames = 42 FHR < Spirit Runeword alone provides 55

7 Frames = 63 FHR < 10 FHR Rare Pelt

Hit by anything else

8 Frames = 39 FHR < Spirit

7 Frames = 56 FHR < Spirit + 10 FHR Pelt OR 5 FHR Small Charm

6 Frames = 86 FHR

BLOCKING

In PvM, it is generally better not to block attacks. There are very few monsters in the game who hit hard enough to trigger a Druid’s hit recovery and it is usually very easy to teleport to safety or to stand and fight.

DAMAGE STAT PRIORITY

%Chance to Cast Decrepify on Striking will dramatically increase your damage output. You get this from The Reaper’s Toll on your mercenary.

+Skills are the only other relevant source of damage scaling for a Windy Druid – Tornado scales moderately with +Skills and Hurricane scales very poorly.

-Enemy Cold Resistance technically increases Hurricane Damage but the effect is so small that it isn’t worthwhile to waste sockets on Cold Facets.

Gameplay

LOW BUDGET

The low budget is not particularly strong but will be able to slowly grind its way through the game in Hell difficulty. Make a habit of keeping Hurricane and Cyclone Armor active while playing and there should be practically no threatening game content. With this level of gear, Grizzly will be your summon of choice since the wolves are too fragile.

MEDIUM BUDGET

Your entire game changes as soon as Enigma becomes available. You are able to telestomp Unique and Champion packs for significantly better experience gain and magic finding. Decrepify from your Mercenary will amplify the damage of your Tornados and add yet another layer of protection.

Due to your limited AOE ability, low density zones with a high number of Uniques are the best places to farm – especially TC85 zones like The Pit and Ancient Tunnels.

HIGH BUDGET

A fully built Windy Druid is basically a God-Mode Tank but plays very similarly to the medium budget build. 8 player games are very easy to solo but the clear speed will be average – for optimal efficiency, it is better to play in a 3 or 5-man party.

One interesting consideration at this level is whether you wish to run with a Grizzly summon or 3 Dire Wolves. Technically speaking, the wolves will be able to draw more monsters off you than the lone Grizzly and they will have enough life to not require constant resummoning. The High Budget Windy Druid finishes with approximately:

  • 6300-6600 Tornado Damage
  • 2700-2800 Hurricane Damage
  • 7000+ Life
  • 2900 Absorb Cyclone Armor
  • +200% Life Oak Sage Party Buff
